Why Every Business Needs a Blog
When I talk to business owners, they often feel blogging isn’t relevant to them or their industry. Other times, business owners are just downright busy and can’t imagine adding another thing to their to-do list. I totally get it! That said, I strongly believe blogging is one of the most under utilized and under valued marketing tools out there for any business. With an idea, a couple paragraphs, and the power of SEO and social media, it has the power to grow any business exponentially.
Here are five reasons why every business needs a blog:
1. search engine optimization (seo)
Truth be told, it’s all about playing Google’s game these days. It may seem complicated, but Google really is just looking for fresh, relevant content that its readers can rely on. So it makes sense that Google would prefer to send its readers to sites that are updated frequently and consistently. Everytime you hit publish on that post, it tells Google there’s a reliable website owner trying to be the best it can be for its viewers!
Another SEO perk? Keywords! Blogs are the perfect place to blast those keywords to draw traffic into your site. Whether you’re an electrical contractor trying to spread awareness about the trades or a beauty blogger wanting to optimize the most popular trends, keyword integrations into blog posts are crucial!
Note: If you use WordPress, get the Yoast SEO Plugin. Everytime you write a blog post, get your readability and SEO scores in the green and you’ll see your traffic soar!
Let’s be real, getting to the top of every Google search list is everyone’s goal these days…no matter the industry you’re in!
2. connecting with your audience
Every business wants to connect with its audience, right? Building strong connections with the target audience creates brand loyalty…and who doesn’t want that? The best way to cultivate a great following is to provide value to your audience, without them always having to pay for it. Hence, why every business needs a blog.
Give your audience what they need through your blog. From advice to thought-provoking content, if you give them more of you, they’ll give them more of you.
3. multi-purpose content
In an age of constant content curation, it can be hard to keep up! Between all the social platforms alone, there’s enough to keep anyone busy…and running out of ideas fast. While your blog’s ultimate home is your website, no one said you can’t spread that content across multiple channels!
Once your blog post is written, the possibilities are endless! Share it on your Facebook page and direct traffic right back to your website. Love Pinterest? Blogs make super clickable pins! Need to keep up that email newsletter? Share a preview of that blog post in the body of your email and entice your reader to “read more” and click right through to your website.
And don’t think you can only share it once! Never be afraid to re-share a blog post a few months after it was first published. You never know who may have missed it the first time!
4. draw attention to your services/products
While no one wants to read through a full-length pitch on why your product or service is the best, they will be willing to read through a real-life example or well-spoken advice on a topic that eventually leads to your product or service. For example, say you’re an online beauty boutique. If you wrote about the top ingredients to avoid in skin care products, gave your audience everything they needed to know, and then mentioned you have a clean beauty section on your website to make it easy to shop clean, then that’s ideal!
More often than not, your audience just wants to know they can trust you. If you provide all the credibility behind why you do what you do, it makes it that much easier for them to convert.
5. keeps you sharp on your industry
I don’t know about you, but it can be really easy for me to become content with what I know. It’s easy to feel like you’ve mastered your space, but if you don’t keep up with it, you can fall behind real fast. When you research what’s happening in your industry and form opinions and advice around it, you become a thought leader.
Not only will creating thought leadership content create trust with your audience, it will also keep your business at the cutting edge! The more you research and share your thoughts, the more likely you are to implement those strategies, advice and thoughts into your own business.
There you have it, friends! The five reasons why every business needs a blog. In reality, there are tons of reasons, but I hope this convinces you enough to get started!
And hey, if you’re feeling like one of those overwhelmed business owners that I mentioned in the beginning, I’m here to help! Curating a blog is my jam.
